Water and Wastewater Quality Testing
We provide engineering, chemistry, microbiology and toxicology lab and testing services as well as human health risk assessments across all major industries, including national and store brand label manufacturing. We can develop and evaluate test methods, as well as create test procedures, standards and protocols. Our Applied Research Center performs scientific research and contract testing for universities, government and the private sector.
We operate over 305,000 square feet of ISO/IEC 17025-accredited, state-of-the-art labs, including extensive instrumentation and technologies, in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia. NSF engineers, microbiologists, toxicologists, chemists, public health experts and certification specialists possess extensive expertise and experience across multiple industries.
Engineering Lab
NSF’s engineering labs are internationally recognized for expertise with North American, European and Asian requirements, and generate reports in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025.
The engineering labs evaluate products and materials for properties, performance, integrity and safety. We continually invest in the latest technologies and employ dedicated engineering professionals, most with advanced degrees, with expertise in chemical, material, mechanical and electrical engineering. Services include routine and customized testing and evaluations to recognized standards (NSF/ANSI, ASTM, etc.), failure analysis, method and protocol development, and quality control audits and analyses.
Chemistry Lab
NSF’s state-of-the-art chemistry labs offer organic and inorganic analyses for numerous products and industries with a specialization in trace analytical testing. Our dedicated staff of scientists has expertise in analytical chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, food and plant science, nutrition and medical technology.
We help establish product stewardship by confirming content and purity, identifying problems with contamination and determining potential for human health and environmental exposures to ingredients and by-products. Labs in multiple global locations perform routine analyses to support compliance with national/international standards as well as customized testing and method development for new sample types and chemicals of concern.
Microbiology Lab
NSF’s microbiology labs are globally recognized for their expertise and commitment to advancing the science of microbiology. We provide a broad range of testing and consulting services in aerobic and anaerobic microbiology, clinical microbiology, cellular and molecular biology, genomics, mycology, virology and parasitology. We develop and participate in validation studies, and test to established methods including EPA, FDA, AOAC, ASTM, APHA, USP and international standards.
Traceability is a key component to our quality assurance program and we assess and document the suitability and use of all media, reagents, consumables and cultures used in testing. Our state-of-the-art, LEED-certified lab performs over 100,000 tests annually and is a biosafety level 2 facility.
Toxicology and Assessment Services
NSF provides toxicology and risk assessment services to evaluate ingredients, materials and products against the health and safety requirements of NSF/ANSI standards and NSF guidelines, as well as U.S. and international regulations. Our professionals provide these services to companies seeking certification, registration or consultancy and have expertise in toxicology, environmental health, industrial hygiene, chemistry and regulatory compliance.
Our toxicologists ensure product quality through material formulation review, evaluation of product test results, and preparation of chemical hazard, exposure and risk assessments. Our risk assessors have prepared human and environmental health risk assessments for a variety of industrial chemicals, drinking water additives and contaminants, food additives, food contact materials, dietary supplement ingredients, pharmaceuticals and consumer products for nearly 30 years.
Regulation Support and Risk Assessment
NSF’s regulation support and risk assessment services include assisting manufacturers in meeting their regulatory needs as well as applying our expertise to collaborative projects with national and international utilities, governments, U.S. and ally militaries, NGOs and other innovators and implementers as they look to understand and manage risk or develop technologies.
NSF has provided toxicology and chemical risk assessment services to evaluate ingredients, materials and products for nearly 30 years, and we support manufacturers seeking toxicology services to meet regulatory requirements such as California Proposition 65 or to provide market differentiators for their technologies. We can support organizations looking to employ new tools for informed decision-making and monitoring around valuable resources such as water or for wastewater management. With a footprint in many countries, we can help influence public health policies in areas where regulations are being developed.
